The Day Everything Caught Fire and How it Sparked
a DPC Practice

I was recently invited to be a guest on the “DPC Life: Conversations Beyond the Practice” podcast. I met the podcast’s creator, Dr. Anne Gonzalez, a few summers ago at the annual DPC Summit national conference. She is a fellow Direct Primary Care (DPC) doctor and owner of Emerald Health Direct Primary Care in Hickory, NC. It turns out that she and I graduated from the same family medicine residency program here in Columbia, SC. She wants to help spread the word about DPC and share DPC physicians’ stories, and I was lucky enough to be one of her first guests!

Dr. Gonzalez and I had a great time chatting and we ended up talking for much longer than the length of the podcast episode. She somehow pulled some stories out of me that have never been heard publicly before ???? You’ll hear about my “Moses and the burning bush” moment, whether I enjoy being a physician or business owner more, and about my growth as a physician before and after opening Noreta Family Medicine. My only regret is that I didn’t have better lighting!
